Educational Support Commitee

The Educational Support Committee (ESC), formerly the Special Needs Committee, is a network of parents, teachers, and staff working together to promote and support academic achievement for all students in the Lakelands Park MS community.   The ESC promotes the collaboration between family and school, in order to enrich the educational experience for all children (including those with special education needs).  Additionally, we will share concerns related to educational issues, raised by parents, students, and staff, with the PTSA.

Throughout the year, we host workshops for parents, teachers, and staff, related to educational and social issues that students in our community experience.  Information shared during these workshops will include strategies that can be used at home and in the classroom to support parents’ and teachers’ efforts of promoting academic achievement for all students. 

Additionally, the ESC will disseminate information about MCPS and community resources (e.g., workshops, support/discussion groups, etc.) which support the educational success of children, through PTSA newsletter articles, the LPMS PTSA Yahoo Listserve (or similar listserve), and the LPMS PTSA website.

The Educational Support Committee will provide the following support to parents, students and staff at LMPS. 

• Answer questions about and provide information related to

• Students struggling with schoolwork and/or homework

• Special education services

• Specific disabilities

• Resources in MCPS and the community

• Collaborate with family and school, in order to enrich the educational experience for all children

• Act as a liaison, bringing the questions/concerns about issues and concerns related promoting and supporting academic achievement for all students at LPMS to the PTSA

• Increase awareness about supporting individuals with disabilities (both academically and socially) within the LPMS community

• Disseminate information to families about MCPS & community resources
