The vigil for Mr. Bittner on Sunday evening was unbelievably awesome due to the hard work of all the volunteers who so willingly jumped into the fray at a very busy time of the year to make this thing happen in just four days time. We estimate that there were over 1,000 people in attendance judging by the number of glow sticks handed out and probably two thirds were students from LPMS, QOHS and NWHS.
We cried, we laughed, we sang, and we celebrated Mr. Bittner's life. Several staff members spoke including Mrs. Higdon, Mrs. Malchodi, Ms. Bureau, Mrs. Hoover and Mr. Bumgardner. Kids from NWHS sang, kids from LPMS and QOHS performed instrumental numbers, Remi Bauer sang, and family members spoke. But the highlight of the night seemed to go to Mr. Beidleman, Jennifer Palmiere and Connie Ingalls for their funny and poignant reading of selected quotes from the Fantastic Falcon Award the PTSA gave to Mr. Bittner last month where the kids answered the writing prompt: "I think Mr. Bittner is an awesome teacher because..."
I don't do these things alone, so if you see any of these people around, please thank them:

Plus countless others who lent a hand or were conscripted to help. This is just a quick list off the top of my head, so I really, really hope I didn't forget someone.
Special shout-out to Pritchard Music Academy (Joe & Becky). They handled all the lights & sound, electrical connectivity, plus organized and rehearsed all the musicians and singers, provided sheet music and music stands, set up and tear down. Real pros.
Also, it must be noted that all the people at the City of Gaithersburg, beginning with Mayor Sidney Katz, gave us everything we asked for and more.

The staff book exchange program has been a favorite for some time now. PTSA seeds the books by collecting donations, and teachers add to it with some of their own books. It's a nice little lending library that they enjoy.
